A few moments ago I was looking at the article about the self-proclaimed pedophile who was just arrested for being too close to minors (he has a restraining order not to get within 30 feet). He also had a camera with him.

I've heard in the past that it's illegal to take photos of children without the parents permission yet this guy can't be arrested for just his photos since he hasn't done anthing technically wrong. Since I've heard otherwise I decided to do some investigating.

It turns out that if you're in a public place without a reasonable expectation of privacy, i.e. a mall, than basically your fair game for anyone who wishes to take & publish photos of you or your children. This site gives a good breakdown & scenario of what is and isn't legal in photo taking & publishing.
