So, the job training has begun. Ray likes to count it down for me; as of today: 3 days down, 33 more to go. Our official last day before we get to start working from home is May 15. THAT will be wonderful.
Have I mentioned that Hilton has extremely strict attendance policies? We can't miss a single day of training or we're out. We're not supposed to be late at all, either, or we can be let go. So, imagine how horrified Ray & I were on Monday when our front tire blew out on the Interstate on our first official day of training. Oh, should I mention that the spare tire wasn't in the trunk due to water leakage issues?
We called Ray's mom (who's staying at our house in the evenings to watch the girls) & she loaded up the girls to come get us. She also called her husband, Mike, who jumped in the car & made it to us before she did & just gave us the keys to take his truck - he caught a ride back with Ray's mom. We made it to training 15 minutes late (we called ahead to let them know what happened) & thankfully they hadn't started yet.
Last night, Ray's mom was unavailable so the girls had their first paid babysitter. We dropped them off at Aimee's house & thankfully they were wonderful for her & even went right to sleep when she put them to bed. This also meant that we had to stop to pick them up on our way home. Without traffic we're about 35 minutes away from training. So, by the time we got home last night it was close to midnight. Kate had also woken up & needed to nurse. The bad part about this is that when I get home at night is when I pump my bottle for her to have the next night when I'm away. Thankfully, I had about 2.5 oz. of a bottle to give her. She was still hungry, so then I nursed her. I then had to pump another bottle & thankfully was still able to get 6 oz. quickly.
With all of that, plus having to wash all of the bottles and pump parts, I finally got to bed around 1 am.
The training started to get a little more interesting last night as we were able to begin practicing data entry on the computer. However, I'm finding the training to be incredibly frustrating, mostly for one reason: they're wasting our time! So far, each night, for about the last hour (if not more) you can clearly tell they're keeping us in class merely because they're not supposed to let us out until 11:00.
For example, last night from about 10-11 we looked at pictures of different Hilton Hotels around the world & then the instructor sat around chatting.
We have two different instructors & one is proving to be incredibly frustrating to many in the class. Instructor number one doesn't give full instructions, just assuming we already know some of this stuff. Monday night she showed us this looong Power Point that she wasn't supposed to show us (instructor number two was supposed to show us the next night) but instructor number one needed to fill time.
I'm so glad we're getting paid for training! Plus, it WAS fun getting to see all sorts of pictures of these upscale hotels around the world - we looked at a lot from the Waldorf.
I cannot wait to go stay there. I love NYC & I totally can't believe we get to stay there for free! Has anyone ever stayed at the Waldorf before?
