An Average Day

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

(Photo journal of the day inspired by my sister who did the same on her blog awhile ago)

6:00am - alarm goes off. This morning I can see the light on in the kitchen which means Ray hasn't left for work yet. Having a chance to tell him goodbye motivates me to get out of bed & start my day. After that, my date with Jillian. Not my favorite date.

After successfully completing my morning exercise I make a green smoothie & sit down to read the Bible & do my devotions. I hardly ever open my actual Bible anymore, it's so much easier to read it online!

The day is getting brighter...

I can hear Clay awake in his room so I get up, shower & finish getting ready for the day.

As good as it's going to get.

My bed is a mess

Much better!

The sand cranes were hanging around the front of my house. Finding some breakfast, perhaps?

I began a meal to take to a friend later in the day. I had just finished when I tasted the dough & it was horribly salty. I realize I accidentally doubled the salt. oops. So, I make another batch, with NO salt, & knead both batches together, hoping that does the trick.

7:40am - I rescue Clay from his prison bed and nurse him. Nursing time=computer time & I catch up on e-mails & facebook.

Happy boy, getting dressed & changed!

Let Clay play on the floor for a bit while I print out some worksheets for the girls.

8:30 - I can hear Kate talking the girls' room, time to get up! (For the record, they don't usually sleep this late, but, they had a very late night the night before & slept in!)

Addison wasn't thrilled about it, she wanted to sleep some more. (or, perhaps she just didn't like the flash going off in her face!)

Scrambled eggs for breakfast.

While the kids eat, I read them their Bible devotionals for the day.

While the kids finish eating I work on organizing some of their school papers

Circle time! (We mustn't forget circle time, the kids let me hear it all day if we don't do circle time in the morning)

I let them run around & dance when we sing "I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart." They love it!

After circle time we do some school.

I work on the meal for a friend some more. I continue to double the recipe - it will be our dinner, too!

I return some calls while cooking. The girls use this as a prime opportunity to sneak into Rays' office & try to eat a Reeses cup (try-I caught them in time!). Time out ensues.

Clay wanted some attention, too. It earned him a nap.

The girls finish time out & get to play with their bin of Barbies.

The carmelized onion & goat cheese tart is finished! It was all I could do not to eat some right away.

The kitchen is no longer clean

10:45 - Get the food prepared for transport to drop off at our friends house. Kate was all ready to go. Doll, purse, necklaces, sunglasses & the top half of a plastic bubble gum machine.

Everyone ready to go!

Almost there! Houses on the left, horse pasture on the right.

The kids stayed in the van while I went to the door & dropped off the food. When I got back in the van & pulled away Kate started WAILING that she wanted to play at Ruthie's house.

We got home & I fed my kids hot dogs for lunch. Yes, hot dogs. Mom of the year, right here! At least they were "kosher." (& yummy, I ate one, too!)

I start to tackle the dishes while the kids finish lunch

Hurray for dishwashers!

12:30 - Almost nap time for the kids, I begin to make my coffee. Kate heard the bag of coffee beans & came running through the house asking for one. Is this my kid or what?

Happily munching on an espresso bean

The two youngest do down for their naps, Addison is "resting" in my room. Finally time to make that coffee!

I take a few moments to sit down & drink some coffee while reading my book online. Addison comes out of my room asking for a snack - pitas & hummus it is!

And, now it's time to fold some of that laundry! I take advantage of my mom's netflix account at this time. I hate to fold laundry, being able to watch something & getting to sit helps, though!

Time for some one-on-one school time with Addison, learning to read

Clay gets up & while nursing him I catalog some of my nutritional info for the day

Kate is awake. She & I both need a snack.

Clay tempted fate with the cat & lost. He was easily consoled with more toys & food.

Washing more dishes

Ray calls to let me know he's coming straight home & that I won't have to go pick him up from his car pool meeting spot. I do the happy dance!

I also sweep the floor

Time to start our dinner

Ray's dad shows up to help Ray work on fixing out a/c

There are already more dirty dishes. Are they reproducing???

Ray is home & outside working on the ac. The kids & I sit down to our delightful dinner!

I sit down for a few minutes of rest before I start work

5:40 - I decide I need to burn a few more calories & hula hoop for 10 minutes

The princesses come & watch me

6:00 - Time for work. I always make a coffee to start my work shift, it gives me something to look forward to while I'm working! (& is also the reason I needed to hula hoop!)

7:00 - Not much has changed from an hour ago. Less coffee=sad

I work on this post - I'm good at multi-tasking like that.

Our system goes down which creates huge gaps between calls. Yay! A nice change of pace from the usual back-to-back calls we receive.

Midnight - I finish work & get to go to bed! Looks like Goldilocks & her bear beat me there. (She'll get moved to her own bed before I'm asleep!)

Brush teeth.

Try to turn off brain so I can sleep. Set alarm for the next morning.

I should photo blog my day. It would be a shocking, ( and boring,) comparison to yours.
I loved getting to see all the pics of the kids. Kates hand prints are still on my door.

I find this so fascinating! I'm sure I'd forget to take photos of most things if I tried to do the same.

This post and the one about forgetting you were going to drive your friends to the airport inspired me to get the kids dressed after breakfast today even though we weren't going anywhere until lunch time. What a difference it makes!!! The only kink was that once they were ready the kids wanted to leave NOW. LOL! I guess it will take some getting used to.
