Finally, Christmas.
For us, Christmas began on Saturday the 23rd this year. The 23rd is my Mom's birthday & there waqs a family get together at 10 in the morning. With the baby & the drive we were a little late but we still made it in time to see my family & show off the baby. I'm so glad we were able to go.
Four generations of girls (all of us first-borns, too)!
In the afternoon we went to visit some of my Mom's neighbors (again, introduce the baby) & then my Mom, Addison, & I went to see Megan at work. I was carrying the baby but kept getting pulled around the store & introduced as, "This is my neice! And my sister." I think Megan was a little excited. I got some coffee & then we picked up stuff for dinner.
Some more friends & family came over for my Mom's birthday dinner. Addison was so out of whack (off her schedule, out of her element) that she was incredibly exhausted but couldn't fall asleep. It was also incredibly noisy so once everybody left she calmed down & slept something fierce. I was so tired that I actually went back to a bedroom & laid down to try & nap while everybody was still there. I didn't get to say goodbye to any of them but I'm pretty sure they understood. :)
Megan went out with friends that night so my Mom & I "elfed" her room. This was totally my Mom's doing, based on the movie elf where he decorates the apartment. She had been plotting this for about a month, making paper chains & cutting out snowflakes. I had fun helping with the decorating though! My mom even took shredded paper & piled it on top of her fan so that when Megan came in exhausted at 5 in the morning it "snowed" all over the place!
Sunday we made it to the fellowship time & second service at church but it was too perfumy to stay. And, with it being Christmas there were a lot of people not there so I still have a bunch of old friends to take Addison back to see.
Addison's Christmas dress, so cute!
After church we had a family photo at my grandmothers & then lunch at another old friends house, Vicki, who we used to homeschool with & Megan & I would play "Star Trek" with her girls. What can I say, just a tad nerdy, but they had the phasers & stuff so it was a lot of fun to play!
My family.
We finally got home & relaxed before heading out the the Sherwoods for the Christmas Eve family get together. We ate, opened presents, hung out, watched a movie, & went on the tradiational Christmas lights ride in the back of the truck. Well, I didn't go, but I don't usually go anyway. I was still very tired & I curled up on the sofa with a blanket & worked on a nap.
We finally got back to my parents place & slept quite well. We woke up & opened gifts around 8, stuck in "Elf" & I got us packed up to go. We left around 10 but unfortunately got stuck in horrid traffic & then it started pouring rain which was bad because the drivers side windsheild wiper doesn't work anymore.
After we made it home I had to feed the baby, wrap the gifts for Ray's family, & find something to wear. I was in tears over this one. I had bought some new tops a few days earlier & took the one I was going to wear on Christmas over to my parents. Unfortunately, I decided I would just shower & get ready when I got home but then I forgot all of those clothes in Orlando!!! I was so upset because I didn't have anything cute that would fit & work with the weather that day. On top of it all neither of us even had time to shower that day.
We finally made it to his Dad's much later than planned. I felt bad for Ray because we were supposed to have dinner with his Dad's family & they were going to eat at 2:00 - we didn't get there until around 2:30. Thankfully, they waited for us to eat so we didn't miss out. They had already opened gifts & after the meal Ray was holding the baby so he had me open all of the many many gifts from his family. This is the one with the grandmother who gives a large bag full of gifts & this year there was stuff for the baby too. It's so embarrassing sitting there opening presents for so long by yourself - remember, I didn't even like it at my shower!
Anyway, after that we headed to see his Mom's side of the family. We pretty much hung out, ate dessert & opened gifts over there (this time I was holding the baby so Ray had to open the presents). :)
Ray's family.
It was a nice weekend but ever so wonderful to get home after being gone & running around so much!
