This is the first day in a week that we don't have any socializing planned. Just one piano lesson this afternoon & church this evening but I don't think I'll make it there.
Ernie, Ruth, & their daughter Karine arrived last Wednesday. Oh, the excitement! Ruth needed stuff from the store so she & I took Kate with us & left the older girls with their dads to play at the park. Ruth & I were able to chat over some coffee, just the two of us; it's a good thing, too, because it was the only opportunity we had to be alone her entire visit!
I forgot my camera on Wednesday, but we had a lovely dinner out at Lee Roy Selmon's. Thursday we were up bright & early to head to Ft. DeSoto Beach. I forgot Addison's bathing suit but, thankfully, Ruth had a swim diaper cover we were able to borrow. The water was frigid but Addison had quite a time playing in the water! Karine preferred the sand. It was also Kate's first visit to the beach!
After the beach the guys went their own way to look at a condo in Clearwater & Ruth & I took the girls to International Plaza. They colored at Nordstrom's, ate Godiva chocolate, received stickers from a "fairy," & had ice cream. Oh to be two again!
Friday we had brunch at Rachels, went to Choxotica, & then back to my place for a bit.
Saturday was another busy day - the guys played soccer while Ruth & I watched the kids, cleaned my kitchen, folded laundry, & made lunch. She's a good friend to do that on her vacation!
After lunch we all headed to Bruster's ice cream. The kids get free cones (Addison's first!) & the place puts sprinkles & little candy eyes on the ice cream. When Addison saw the eyes she started freaking out & screaming, "Don't like the eyes!" Ray had to eat them off for her. It was too funny.
After ice cream we went to Hyde Park & let the girls play in the fountains there. We also walked around the village a bit & then had some Pho for dinner.
I think Ray totally made the waitresses night. First, he didn't realize that he was supposed to break apart the wooden chopsticks (you know how they're connected at top?). Then, he asked for some kiddie chopsticks, the kind held together at the top by a rubberband. The waitress brought them but thought they were for Addison; I think she got such a kick out of Ray using them instead! You know she had to be telling the other staff about him back in the kitchen.
We said our goodbyes to Ruth & Ernie at church Sunday morning. I truly hope another two years doesn't go by before we get to see them again!
Next: my parents visit
