A Special Grown-Up Night

This afternoon we drove to pick up Ray from work & Addison was so tired that she feel asleep for about twenty minutes. Which, meant she wasn't tired when it came time for bed tonight. I needed to go to the grocery store (Ray signed up to bring a casserole to the men's prayer breakfast Saturday morning, which really means I'm making a casserole. He's taking the van tomorrow & I work tomorrow night so this was the only chance I'd have to get the ingredients) but since Addison wasn't falling asleep I pulled her out of bed, got her dressed & took her with me.

I just didn't tell Addison where we were going. When we got to Target I had a "talk" with her in the van; I explained that she was the only one with me, it was dark out & bedtime but she was going to have special grown-up time with me at the store. Addison was very happy about this. Here was her excited face:

My mom gave each of the girls a giftcard to Starbucks for Valentine's Day (to buy oatmeal). I let Addison buy chocolate milk instead.

As we were walking out of the Starbucks, with a promise to go look at clothes, she told me, "This is fun, mommy!" We went to look at shoes & she had much fun picking out different pairs to try on.

It was quite a fun night out with my oldest girl & I think it was good for both of us to get some one-on-one time.

Aw, I love her excited face! Those are the kind of special times she'll remember when she's older :)

It's great when your interests collide as they grow older. I was thrilled when I discovered one day that Jossie liked watching Jane Austen movies and it's still something we love to do together :)
