Busy

How convicting are those 5 simple words? Stop the glorification of busy.

I think it's important to understand those words, too. We will be busy. Some seasons of life are busier than others. But, what about when we make being busy important?

I've noticed it spoken of as a competition. I say this as one completely guilty.

"Let's see, I have two meetings this day, we have a play date on that day, dance, more meetings...maybe we could try to get together in two months?"

Oh, I'm so guilty.

Does that busy schedule make us feel more important, that we have more worth? I know when others begin telling me all they have going on my competitive instinct to begin telling them my schedule kicks in. "Oh, I better mention what I have going on so that they know I'm needed, too!"

Our worth is in Christ.

Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. (Mt. 10:31 ASV)

I'm not talking about your general girl talk conversations. Of course, I share with my friends. Sometimes, I just need the camaraderie, someone for me to share the burden of my schedule when it can feel a little overwhelming. I'm so thankful for friends who will listen! But, I certainly notice in my conversations that sometimes it veers to the area of pride with our busy schedules.

But, where is the pride in that busyness taking away from relationships?

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up. (I Thess. 5:11 NIV)

My schedule has been hectic lately. This week I did have 5 meetings, a play date, a moms night out, our CC day, church & then the normal day-to-day schooling & cleaning. It was busy. Sometimes it is simply unavoidable, but, it's a season of my life right now. Sometimes I feel the need to share with others just so they know why I must tell them "no." (I've been trying to learn to say "no" to things, but, that's an entire post of it's own)

My attitude in having that schedule is where the difference comes in. Why take pride in being pulled in so many different directions if it's taking away from my time to build up relationships, even with a simple phone call? Or, if it tries me so that I lose my patience with my children?

There is nothing wrong with a season of busyness. But, our attitude, as with anything, makes all the difference.

Stop the glorification of busy.

So well said, Jessica.
I'm going to share this with my church group and with my work colleagues - who seem to glorify busy on a regular basis.
Bless!
